Student life

As a popular city for students, Rostock constantly attracts a great deal of new impulses and creative ideas. This is also apparent to the young people who choose the city as their next point of berth. Science and research, leisure and friends, the city offers a whole lot to students who choose its shore as the place to spend this exciting chapter in their lives.

Main building University of Rostock

Traditio et Innovatio

In 2019, the university celebrated the 600th anniversary of its founding and is the oldest university in the Baltic region. Today, there are nine faculties and an interdisciplinary group which is currently offering more than 170 courses for 14,000 students. “Traditio et Innovatio” is the university’s motto – discover traditions and strike off for pastures new.

The university has cultivated close collaboration with extramural research institutions such as the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research and the MSC Robben research centre, which hold lectures for students.

Sun, beach & surfing

But student life does not just consist of studying – after lectures, it is off to the beach! Warnemünde means beaches, surfing, kite surfing, stand-up-paddling and chilled sunsets by the sea. In the young surfer scene, you can make contacts quickly on your course or at the beach bar. With sand between your toes and the sun on your skin, even cramming for your next exam can be fun.
