The Volkstheater in Rostock

‘Theatrical art’ has been spoken of in Rostock since 1751, when the Schönemann acting company, with Conrad Ekhof, made an appearance in Rostock. Highs and lows followed, before people began to speak of the “Bayreuth of northern Germany” and Rostock’s Wagner orchestrations in the first decades of the 20th century.

In the new millennium, the Volkstheater Rostock became a building with four departments: dance theatre, musical theatre, plays and concerts.

Increasing numbers of visitors, great artistic success and large-scale engagement are representative of the artistic future of Rostock’s stages and a new theatre in the city!
