Trade fairs in Rostock

As a "shop window of the north", the City of Rostock sees itself as the exhibition location in the north-east of Germany. With the construction of the HanseMesse Rostock at the IGA Park in Rostock-Schmarl, the city has been the regional exhibition centre of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for over ten years, and is a recommended location for many occasions due to its modern atmosphere.

HanseMesse

The HanseMesse Rostock sets the standards in the trade fair business. The statistics proudly show that there have been 2,500 trade fairs with 4.5 million visitors and 20,000 exhibitors in a combined presentation area of 1,000,000 m². They also show that the regional trade fair centre is popular amongst organisers, exhibitors and visitors alike. Today, the trade fair experience is much more than exhibitions and presentations; it now means exchanges of ideas, industry meetings, workshops and good entertainment.

Trade fair sites

The regional trade fair centre of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is known these days as the HanseMesse Rostock and is located in the IGA Park in Rostock-Schmarl. 10 years ago, the glass, wood and metal structure which is flooded with light was opened at the shore of the Warnow River in Rostock-Schmarl, creating new opportunities for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the era of the trade fair. The exhibition hall, measuring 10,600 square metres, can be used in different ways and is distinguished by its functionality.

The fascinating building complex at the HanseMesse Rostock was built based on designs from renowned Hamburg architecture firm, Gerkan, Marg & Partner. As well as the exhibition hall, it includes an outdoor exhibition area which is twice the size and the small, classy meeting rotunda with six halls and 470 seats. The HanseMesse had its first performance test during the IGA garden exhibition in 2003, which attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Trade fair dates

There are trade fairs almost all year round in Rostock. Beginning in January with the ‘Oldtimermarkt’, the large travel fair ‘Viva Touristika’ and the wedding convention, a performance show for many festive occasions, the convention season ends in November with the ‘GastRo’ specialist and experience convention for hotels, restaurants and retailers. The OstseeMesse, the largest consumer show in the North, the ‘Eigenheim’ and ‘Autotrend’ conventions, as well as caravan, bike, boats, fishing, building, living and lifestyle exhibitions, to name but a few, and a large dog show have established themselves at the HanseMesse.

Tradition of the Hansa, white beaches and proud sailing ships

Gothic churches, abbeys and city gates in the historic city centre are reminders of the power and wealth of the rich city in the Middle Ages. Rostock combines the tradition of the Hansa with modern architecture and youthful charm, white sandy beaches and enchanting coastal landscape by the Baltic sea with windjammers, cruise ships and cultural diversity: These are a few examples of how attractive and diverse this university city by the Warnow River and the Baltic Sea, the largest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is.
